This antibiotic is also used for the treatment of acne (chapter 13.6)

DOXYCYCLINE

Prescribing Notes:

Doxycycline is no more effective than oxytetracycline and is several times more expensive. Uses include sinusitis and pelvic inflammatory disease.

Prescribing Notes:

Do not initiate for the treatment of acne as it is less suitable for prescribing compared with other tetracyclines.

As per Scottish Government guidance, is of low clinical value for treatment of acne. Please consider deprescribing where safe and appropriate.
