6.7.1. Bromocriptine and other dopaminergic drugs

Restricted to specialist initiation. Restricted to use on the recommendation of a specialist endocrinologist or gynaecologist. The CSM has advised that bromocriptine and cabergoline have been associated with pulmonary, retroperitoneal and pericardial fibrotic reactions. Refer to BNF for details.

6.7.2. Drugs affecting gonadotrophins
Restrictions:
Treatment of precocious puberty with triptorelin is restricted to initiation by a paediatrician. Triptorelin (as Decapepyl SR) is Formulary for the use in the treatment of endometriosis and uterine fibroids within the licensed indications for the available strengths. However, Gonapeptyl Depot for the treatment of endometriosis has not been accepted by SMC and this use of this particular preparation is non-Formulary. The reversible reduction of testosterone to castrate levels in order to decrease sexual drive in adult men with severe sexual deviations has not been accepted by SMC and this use of this particular preparation is non-Formulary.

Note: This Formulary entry relates to triptorelin acetate. Triptorelin embonate (Salvacyl) is not recommended by SMC is not included in the GGC Formulary. Care should be taken to ensure the correct triptorelin preparation is prescribed and dispensed.
