Primary Care Prescribing Guidance – Wound Care Protectors for lower limbs
Key Messages
-
Seal-Tight ™ wound care protectors are included in the NHSGGC Wound formulary for use on chronic lower limb wounds
-
They are not to be prescribed for patients who can remove compression hosiery or wound dressings and reapply independently after bathing or patients with fracture casts
Background
A limited range of waterproof limb covers are included in Part 2 Scottish Drug Tariff allowing primary care prescribing.
Seal-Tight™ wound care protectors can minimise unnecessary dressing changes leading to reduced demand on staffing, product costs and improve patient hygiene. They are reusable and can be expected to last for the duration of wound treatment. The covers are self-sealing and can be fully submerged, preventing the penetration of water to wound dressings during bathing.
Formulary choice waterproof limb covers in NHSGGC
Seal-Tight™ wound protector adult short leg, adult wide short leg and adult foot/ankle have been added to the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Wound Formulary for use on chronic lower limb wounds only.
