Lidocaine 1% with adrenaline 100micrograms/20ml (1:200,000) injection (Xylocaine®) - there is a supply problem with lidocaine 1% with adrenaline which is anticipated to last until at least mid-October 2021. Alternative strengths and alternative licensed options should be considered where appropriate. Please refer to the NHS GGC Medicines Information Memorandum on StaffNet for more information.

Metformin 500mg/5ml oral solution – there is currently a supply problem, but there has been no Scottish Government advice published to date.

Why do medicine shortages occur?
Medicine shortages occur for a variety of reasons, including difficulties sourcing raw materials, product recalls for safety reasons, changes to licence holder, and changes to pack sizes.
It is vitally important that medicine shortages are monitored and appropriate actions taken, to minimise impact on patient care.
