Capsaicin cream 0.025% (Zacin®) and 0.075% cream (Axsain®) – there is a current shortage of both strengths, and date of resolve is currently end of June 2023.

Dalteparin (Fragmin®) 10,000units/1ml solution for injection ampoule – this has been discontinued, and it is expected stock will be exhausted by May 2023. Alternative strengths and formulations of dalteparin and other low molecular weight heparins remain available and will be able to support increased demand.

Fluoxetine solution 20mg/5ml and dispersible tablets 20mg – there is a current shortage of both preparations, and date of resolve is end of March 2023.

Insuman® insulins – various preparations are discontinued, with stock expected to be exhausted by May 2023.

Zopiclone 3.75mg tablets – there is a current shortage of this preparation with an anticipated resupply date of end of March 2023.

Why do medicine shortages occur?
Medicine shortages occur for a variety of reasons, including difficulties sourcing raw materials, product recalls for safety reasons, changes to licence holder, and changes to pack sizes.
It is vitally important that medicine shortages are monitored and appropriate actions taken, to minimise impact on patient care.
