Key Medicine Shortages – July 2022

Monthly Update

  1. Disulfiram 200mg tablets – there is a current shortage of UK licensed tablets and it is anticipated they will not be available until September 2022. Unlicensed tablets are available in 200mg and 250mg strengths.

Please refer to the NHSGGC Central Prescribing Memorandum on StaffNet for further information.

  2. Norethisterone 5mg tablets – there is a current supply problem resulting in sporadic availability in wholesalers. There is limited and sporadic availability of Utovlan® (norethisterone) tablets. There is an expected recovery date of July 2022 for the generic preparation, however, this has not been confirmed.

Please refer to the NHSGGC Central Prescribing Memorandum on StaffNet for further information.

  3. NovoRapid® Penfill 100units/ml solution for injection 3ml cartridges – there is currently a shortage with no expected date of recovery. Supplies of other Novorapid® products including vials, FlexPen®, FlexTouch® and Pumpcart® remain unaffected at this time. Please note that although Fiasp® and NovoRapid® both contain the active ingredient, insulin aspart, they are not interchangeable due to their different bioavailability.

Please refer to the NHSGGC Central Prescribing Memorandum on StaffNet for further information.
