Therapeutics Handbook Update: February 2021

The Adult Therapeutics Handbook content has now been updated.

This update includes updates to the following guidelines;

  • Treatment of paracetamol overdose – this guideline details the different management protocols (dependent on patient presentation and scenario) and the use of a 12-hour N-acetylcysteine regime (SNAP protocol). Some additional guidance is also provided in a Medicines Update Blog article.
  • Reversal of antithrombotic therapies – the management of life-threatening haemorrhage section now includes brief mention of andexanet alfa reversal agent and links to the GGC guidelines in the StaffNet Clinical Guideline Repository for more detailed information.
  • Thromboprophylaxis: low molecular weight heparin dose guide in renal impairment – this guidance has been updated to align with the GGC guidance on StaffNet.
  • Diabetes, Inpatient Prescribing FAQs for Junior Doctors – until aspects of this resource can be fully incorporated within the Therapeutics Handbook, directions on how to find this resource on the StaffNet Clinical Guideline Repository have been included as an interim measure. This resource replaces the guidance on the management of hypoglycaemia, management of diabetes for people receiving enteral feeding and types of antidiabetic agents in the handbook.
