Important: Update re enoxaparin

Important: Update on preferred brand of enoxaparin pre-filled syringes across NHSGGC

Key points:

  • NHSGGC is switching to Inhixa® enoxaparin pre-filled syringes for all strengths starting from the 25th March 2019.
  • The safety device on the pre-filled syringe is the same as Arovi®.  After administration of Inhixa® the user must apply additional pressure to the plunger to activate the needle guard until an audible click is heard.
  • The brand of enoxaparin multidose vials will remain Clexane® (this preparation is mainly used for paediatric patients).
  • On discharge from hospital, enoxaparin should be prescribed generically by prescribers. Details of brand and quantity must be added to the discharge letter by staff issuing a supply to facilitate continuity of care following discharge.
  • In Primary Care, enoxaparin should be prescribed by brand name.

The most up to date memo contains more detail on available information and training resources, ordering, prescribing, administration and arrangements for discharge / outpatients and has been emailed to health care professionals across NHSGGC.
