Faulty FreeStyle Libre Advice

Occasionally FreeStyle Libre sensors are found to be faulty. The sensors may not stick properly, may not turn on or provide any results. Faulty sensors should be replaced by the manufacturer (Abbott) so patients should only require 26 sensors on prescription per year (one sensor will last for two weeks).

GP practices should not provide prescriptions to replace faulty sensors. Patients are advised to phone Abbott’s Customer Care Line - 0800 170 1177 - option 3 to request a replacement.

Abbott will take the details of the sensor including the serial number which is on the sensor itself; therefore if the patient has discarded the box this should not matter.

This advice is included in the Diabetes MCN communication to the GP practice.
